W.O.W. – A Bottle of Wine from the Grocery Store?

Recently, Sen. Andrew Rice’s (D-OKC) bill to allow voters in Oklahoma and Tulsa County to vote on whether to allow grocery stores in their county to sell wine and high point beer was rejected in the Senate Committee on Business and Labor.

Proponents of the bill believe it would help Oklahoma attract more diverse grocery shopping options, and would allow the people in the state’s two largest cities to decide whether this was a worthwhile endeavor. Opponents of the bill are concerned about the impact it would have on liquor stores in Oklahoma. What do you think?

Do you believe voters in Oklahoma and Tulsa Counties should be able to vote on whether to allow wine and higher point beer to be sold in grocery stores?

  • Yes (100%, 31 Votes)

This issue really pisses me off because OK wants to advance, and not get made fun of, but it doesn’t let the people vote on what they want. It is stupid to say that selling wine will negatively affect liquor stores beacuse liquor stores carry much more than just wine. For God’s sake we are not asking to sell vodka next to the baby aisle! We want real domestic beer and wine in our grocery stores!

I assume it would also likely lead to a slight bump in sales tax revenue. It’s much easier to pick up a bottle of wine while I’m at the grocery store than have to make a separate stop just for that. And I’m sure that our local wine producers would be in favor of it.

Oklahoma as well the rest of the US has a teen drinking epidemic. Allowing alcohol to be sold in grocery stores allows more access for teens to acquire this drug.

I am very dissappointed with Sen Andrew Rice whom I spoke with about the teen drinking epidemic, and he himself being an alcoholic I though he’d be on board with my org’s mission but yet he wants to make it worse.

Side note – I also met with Sen Todd Lamb in the context of reducing teen drinking to lower the teen pregnancy rates here…on board? No, of course not…he’s on a roll to deny women’s rights instead of helping pervent teen drinking that directly contributes to the unwanted pregnancy problem in this state.

This state needs a brain….all most all our ills can be traced back to a 12 year old starting to drink this drug..5,000 a day start..and more startling is that half the alochol they get comes from their PARENTS. When are we going to address this problem..oh, I see, you drink therefore you ignore that alcohol is a HARD DRUG…no matter the percentage in the product it’s still a drug…an unmarked one as well.

    Thank you.
